Even before the pandemic, more than 35 million people were going hungry in America. Including 10 million children. Food insecurity forced millions more over the last year to make the inhumane choice between affording other priorities such as healthcare, medicine, or housing or putting food on the table. We know that hunger is so much more than an empty stomach. It can lead to many other issues like depression, diabetes, and heart disease. In children, their self-esteem is severely affected. Sadly, communities of color are disproportionately affected.
